INSTRUCTIONS
TASK
Project 2A: Production Shoot
Group 2: Task Delegation
 |
Figure 1.1 Grouping and task delegation |
After being divided into groups, we each picked the role we wanted. I was
interested in learning how to use the camera, thus I volunteered to be the
D.O.P.
D.O.P Roles
-
Collaborate with the director to determine the visual style and
overall look of the film.
-
Plan and execute the lighting design for each shot, working with the
assistants to set up lights.
-
Choose the appropriate cameras, lenses, filters, and other equipment
for each shot. Frame and compose shots in collaboration with the
director and camera operators.
-
Determine the camera angles, movements, and focal lengths for each
shot.
-
Monitor camera and lighting equipment during filming, troubleshooting
any issues that arise.
-
Ensure that the footage meets technical and creative standards for
color, exposure, and image quality.
-
Work with the camera crew to ensure that the camera movements and
shots are smooth and precise.
-
Supervise the camera and lighting crews, delegating tasks and
ensuring that everyone is working safely and efficiently.
Pre-Production
As D.O.P., I I looked through the storyboard given and familiarized myself
with all the scene and shots to be prepared for the production shoot.
Production - Shooting in Class
On the day of shooting, almost all group members arrived early in class, and we started shooting according to schedule.

Me and Yan Ling were in charge of the camera, we had to adjust the tripod and camera position to make sure it was the right spot. We also learned how to adjust the focus and shutter speed for the camera. The hardest shot to film was Scene 1 Shot 1 because it required us to use the crane, we needed extra help with the camera.
Post Production - Editing, Color Correcting & Color Grading
After we wrapped up the shooting, we filtered out the good takes. I imported the footages and audio into Premiere Pro then started editing the sequence and adding sound effects. I realized I should have edited the scenes based on the sound effect instead of the other way around, though.

Then I started color correcting by adjusting the luminosity and RGB of all the scenes to match.

Moving on, I did color grading on the 7 scenes based on the combination given by Mr. Martin.
- Teal & Orange
- Blueish(Cold)
- Greenish(Cold)
- Brownish(warm)
- Desaturation, 50%-70%
- B&W
- High contrast

Lastly, I added some texts in between scenes to give it a more cinematic effect.

Task 2B: TikTok Video
Proposal
Process
I filmed all the clips required based on each look/outfit. There were 3 looks in total.

Then, I imported the clips into Premiere Pro and started cropping and editing the clip sequence to match the beat of the song.

Moving on, I color corrected some of the clips that had vast difference in lighting due to different time filmed. Lastly, I color graded the final scenes to make it stand out.

REFLECTIONS
In this task, I was able to experience production shooting in a group as well as individually. I learned about the process involved in the three stages, which is pre-production, production and post production. I realised that in order to produce a good video, all three stages has to be conducted diligently. It is an accomplishing process when all three stages are done well, and the final outcome turns out satisfactory. Working in a group production requires everyone to put in effort for their responsible parts and work together, whereas working individually we can do it at our own pace but we have to the handle the workload by ourselves, and there may be limitations to the video content. Overall, it was an insightful and beneficial learning experience that trained my skills in producing a complete video.
