TASK

Project 3: Low Fidelity App Design Prototype

After completing the UX design process, the next step is to create a low-fidelity prototype of the app. This involves organizing all the screen wireframes, actions, visual feedback, and connecting them using a prototyping tool such as Adobe XD, Figma, InVision Studio, or a similar platform. Following this, we will conduct usability testing by inviting participants to interact with the low-fidelity prototype. During these sessions, we will collect feedback, record their responses, and identify any pain points encountered. The entire process will be documented, and we will produce a comprehensive analysis of the findings, including proposed solutions for the issues uncovered during testing.

Process

References

First, I started looking at references online, I wanted a more modern look for the redesign, and I thought the rounded design looked good.

Wireframe Sketch

Then, I sketched out a rough wireframe for the main pages based on my information architecture map.

Figma Prototyping

As I now had a rough idea of the overall design style, I proceeded with prototyping in Figma. It felt overwhelming at first with the amount of pages we had to do, and I was often stuck because I wasn’t sure how to design certain pages.

After I was done with the layouts and design, I moved on with the interactions. Only then I learned about components and variants. My first interaction was a carousel, it was confusing at first but rewarding when it worked smoothly. There was a learning curve and I enjoyed this process the most. I do wish I learned this before designing as it would save me some time. In the end, I feel quite satisfied with the overall layout.

Usability Testing

Usability testing was done with 3 different users, each assigned a different scenario, which are:
  • Onboarding, login and browsing
  • Journey planning
  • Community sharing and checking profile

User 1: Emily

1. What do you think about the overall app design?

The overall design is quite simple and very clear to understand.

2. What do you think about the navigation? Was it confusing in anyways?

I think it's okay, maybe because I'm not familiar with the app, for a first time user maybe need a little time.

3. Do you have any suggestions?

There was a page where I couldn't go to the previous page when I press back, I think that can be improved.

User 2: Yun Yue

1. What do you think about the overall app design?

I think it's great.

2. What do you think about the navigation? Was it confusing in anyways?

No, I found it very intuitive.

3. Do you have any suggestions?

Would be nice if there were more colors.

User 3: Suet Yee

1. What do you think about the overall app design?

The design is good.

2. What do you think about the navigation? Was it confusing or intuitive?

I think overall it's okay. But I think the back button is a little confusing as it brought me to home page when I was previously in profile page.

3. Do you have any suggestions? (add-on: maybe suggestions on the color)

I'd prefer bright colors.
