Exercise 2

INSTRUCTIONS

TASK

Exercise 2:

  • Organize a group of information into a visual poster that combines and utilizes the LATCH principles (Minimum 4).
  • We are required to use the digital photo editing/illustration software available to assemble the information into a LATCH infographic poster.
  • We are allowed to reuse back the images but we have to create the rest of visuals to complete the poster.

Process

I decided to use My Little Pony tv show's main six characters (mane six) for this L.A.T.C.H. exercise.

L (Location) - Place of Origin
A (Alphabet) - The ponies' names
T (Time) -
C (Category) - Type of pony
H (Hierarchy) - Hierarchy of type of pony by power

Place of Origins
  • Canterlot
  • Cloudsdale
  • Ponyville
Types of Pony
  • Unicorn
  • Pegasi
  • Earth Pony

Sketch

In the first sketch, the categories of types of ponies are arranged horizontally, which I felt like doesnt show much of the hierarchy, so I decided to go with the second sketch which is arranged vertically.

Digitization

I started by looking for visuals that could be used online, then placing them into adobe illustrator. At first there was a tribe banner for each pony type, but I felt it was too much and unnecessary so I removed it.

Then, I arranged them nicely and added the visual elements and colors to complete the infographic poster.

REFLECTION

This exercise was slightly difficult, as we had to present the information according to the LATCH principle. For a few of the ideas that I wanted to present, I found it difficult to have at least four LATCH principles, or that I did not really know how to design the infographic without it seeming all over the place. In the end, I chose to present my favorite childhood cartoon show, since I was quite familiar with the main characters, which would make the process easier. For me, t's always best to sketch out your ideas if I'm feeling stuck. It is also helpful for me to put all the information I need in the canvas first, then start figuring how to arrange and design it. I've learned from this exercise that we have to consider other factors such as using the LATCH principles so that our audiences can understand the information quicker and easily, rather than just designing it to be visually appealing. It was a great learning experience.
